Manx Miracles is a parent led Isle of Man Charity for children that have additional needs and disabilities.
Our objective is to raise money for children and families on the Isle of Man that face significant challenges and have additional needs. In particular we are passionate about helping children with physical and/or learning disabilities reach their potential.
As a Mother of a child with a rare collection of medical difficulties, I know how traumatic and painful it can be for parents, families and children alike. But I also know that early and intensive intervention can make a real difference.
Our son Harrison (my little miracle man) has been our inspiration in setting up this charity. Manx Miracles is built around our determination to reach out to all the children and their families and make sure they have access to the best support available. Our family has received the most phenomenal support from so many specialists and professionals on the Isle of Man and this is one way of us saying thank you and an opportunity to give something back to the community.
Pre-School Assessment Centre (PSAC) in particular has transformed Harrison’s life and this experience has compelled us to do something to help other children faced with similar challenges on the Isle of Man.
Our first mission is to raise funds to build a new sensory play room for PSAC. It is an amazing resource on the Island and does incredibly important and remarkable work. They are committed to providing the very best opportunities for each and every child in their care. Their team is made up of forward-thinking, expertly trained professionals who use latest research and techniques to help children reach their true potential. We feel privileged to be able to help raise the funds to build a new sensory play room which will make a difference to so many children and the Isle of Man community.
Thank you for your time, interest and support. Without you, we couldn’t make this happen.
With very best wishes
We are very fortunate to have a Board of Trustees consisting of individuals who contribute a wide range of expertise and experience to the charity. The Trustees are responsible for strategic development and ensuring the smooth running of the charity.
Louise Connor (nee Orton) is the Founder and Secretary of Manx Miracles. Louise runs the charity on a day-to-day basis and is the driving force behind many of our activities geared towards meeting the objectives of the charity. Louise is an accomplished HR professional with a career spanning over 20 years during which she has held various senior roles in blue chip organisations with broad international remits stretching across multiple locations. Louise is married and kept a busy bee with two children and three step-children.
Christian is the Treasurer of Manx Miracles. Having completed a number of years in the Hotel and Leisure Industry as a Publican and Hotel Manager Christian moved into the Financial Services Sector as an Internal Auditor for the IOM Post Office. Qualifying in the UK he contracted for 12 months as an Accountant managing the capital projects of Going Places, including the transfer of the back office operations from Guildford to Rochdale.
In 2001 he joined Barclays PLC as a Management Accountant responsible for reporting the performance of the Bank’s IT projects. He was seconded to the Isle of Man as Finance Manager of Barclays Private Clients International Operations in 2005; later becoming an Associate Director within the bank responsible for Finance & Operational Management over multiple jurisdictions.
He was Chairman of the Barclays Charity of the Year committee, during which time they raised £100,000 for its selected charities, including nearly £50,000 for Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation.
In 2008 Christian joined Transsend Ltd (Conister Group), pioneers of prepaid cards as Financial Controller. Failure to achieve an e-gaming licence forced the business to retrench to Conister Bank rather than as a stand-alone entity. He supported the CEO with the financial restructuring before joining IOM Payroll and Service Provision Ltd in late 2009 as Head of Finance.
He acted as a consultant to J B Quirk & Associates before becoming a partner in 2012 & a Director of Cowley Quirk Accountants Limited in 2013.
Outside of the office his time is spent with his family, gardening or watching sport (with the weekly 5 a-side football match to put the theory into practice!)
Damian has lived on the Isle of Man for over 10 years. Passionate about fundraising and children's charities he has completed an array of fundraising events including the Parish walk, 3 Peaks, London Marathon and also led the team that secured the Island the Guinness Book of Records Title for World's Largest 3 legged race raising £50,000 in the process.
Willing to turn his hand to any new challenge, he is always keen on trying new ways to raise money for good causes. Working as Head of Operations for a financial services company, Damian lives in Onchan with his daughter Matilda.
Chris' career stretches back almost 30 years and has included senior roles with Barclays (in the UK, Jersey and Isle of Man), HR Strategic and Isle of Man Payroll and Service Provision Limited. Hailing from Manchester, Chris has been a Manx resident for over 10 years and has grown hugely attached to the Island and its people. Chris lives in Abbeylands, is married to the Charity's founder Louise, and is kept fully occupied in his spare time by his 5 children, a dog that thinks she's a human and a cat that thinks he's a dog!!
Krystina is a non-practising UK Barrister who has extensive experience of Trusts. She has lived on the Island for over 25 years and has been involved in many fund raising events. She was Treasurer of Scoill Phurt le Moirrey's PTA when they set a target to raise £15,000 to improve the school playground for the pupils, who included those in the special needs unit, Elmer's Room. They ran a variety of fund raising events and achieved the goal with the reward of watching the children enjoying their new play area. Krystina commented she is delighted to be involved with this Charity and is looking forward to an exciting and busy time.
Andy is a founder and Director of a series of successful Internet companies. He has been working in the area of digital communication for more than 12 years and remains at the forefront as MD of DotPerformance, who were kind enough to develop the Manx Miracles branding and website. Andy is delighted to apply his skills to fundraising for a charitable cause and looks forward to making a real difference on the island.
Our supporters make it all happen. They give their name, their services, their advice and their expertise for no financial reward. Our supporters also fundraise for us in tireless fashion.
